Dr. Elsayed Abdel-Moty is the Program Director of the Rosomoff Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (RCRC), a department of Douglas Gardens Hospital.
He received a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering and an MS in Biomedical Engineering, both from Cairo University, Egypt. In 1988, He received a PhD in Biomedical, Ergonomics and Systems Engineering from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida.
Dr. Abdel-Moty participated in the establishment of the Ergonomics and Bioengineering Division at the RCRC in 1982 where he was a full time Ergonomist, interacting with patients on daily basis, performing daily evaluations of patients, monitoring their progress through quantitative methods, and conducting ergonomics job analysis, job simulations and work conditioning. Dr. Abdel-Moty has developed "SWAD", an Expert System for the analysis and design of seated work places. He has also developed a system for daily progression of patients’ goals during rehabilitation and nemours other tools to monitor and improve productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Since 1996, as the Administrator of Clinical Services and Systems, Dr. Abdel-Moty has been heavily involved in the operational management of the Center. He has used his background, education, and training in industrial, biomedical, ergonomic, and systems engineering to manage the day-to-day operations of the Center. He has applied valuable principles of efficiency, effectiveness, and work processes in the clinical setting to increase productivity, manage resources, monitor quality, and facilitate multidisciplinary operations.
He is the author and co-author of many scientific papers and books chapters on chronic pain. He co-authored the text book: Ergonomics in Back Pain: A Guide to Prevention and Rehabilitation. He is a frequent speaker at national and international professional meetings. He is the recipient of a grant from Florida High Technology and Industry Council for the development of a computerized functional assessment system. He also authored and co-authored several chapters in medical as well as engineering text books.
Dr. Abdel-Moty is the Founding President of the Dade District of the Southern Pain Society. He is a member of the American Pain Society, the Southern Pain Society, Tau Beta Pi, the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the International Foundation for Industrial Ergonomics and Safety, the International Society of Biomechanics. He was selected by the State of Florida to serve on Task Forces for the development of guidelines for work hardening, pain programs, and functional capacity testing. He serves on the American Pain Society's “Clinical Centers of Excellence Award” Selection Committee. The Committee is charged with reviewing, evaluating, and rating applications for the national “Centers of Excellence” Award. The RCRC was a first recipient of the award in 2007.
